Abstract
This publication reviews the existing capabilities and needs of the dyestuff industry in several developing countries of the region, and provides information on the various types of advanced dyestuff manufacturing technologies needed in the industrialized countries. It also highlights ways for improving manufacturing processes and promoting competitiveness of dyestuff industries, taking into account relevant environment protection issues.
Chapter I presents a note by the ESCAP secretariat which provides an overview of relevant application classes of textile dyestuffs, the production and international trade of dyes, and current technological capabilities in dyestuff manufacturing of selected countries in the region. The same chapter also touches upon issues related to advanced manufacturing technology environments, technology transfer and regional cooperation.
The country experiences of China, the Republic of Korea and Thailand are presented in Chapters II to VI, in which are described issues related to acquiring and using technologies for dyestuff manufacturing and, in case of China, in the manufac ture and application of important auxiliaries such as lignin. State-of-the-art knowledge and advanced manufacturing technologies for commercialization of different dyes are also discussed. Chapters VII and VIII deal with advanced manufacturing technologies of different types of dyes, and application technology of dispersants (lignin) in dye finishing processes developed and used in industrialized countries.
Chapter IX presents a summary of the technical discussions, conclusions and recommendations of the Seminar on Dyestuff Manufacturing Technology for Commer cialization.
