AB <p>The Symposium on Tourism Promotion in the Asian Region was organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) at Hangzhou, China, from 12 to 15 November 1990 in collaboration with the China National Tourism Administration and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government. It was financed jointly by the Governments of China and Japan. The symposium was part of the project seeking the “maximization of the socio-economic benefits from tourism development.” The purpose of the symposium was to strengthen tourism officials’ capabilities in taking effective steps to maximize the socio-economic benefits from the development of sustainable tourism and to minimize its adverse impact.</p>
