Abstract
To support continued integration and cooperation among ECO members and Armenia, ESCAP initiated the Strengthening of Subregional Economic Cooperation in Trade and Investment Among the South-western Member Countries of ESCAP project. Under the project, a Seminar on Trade and Investment Information Networking in the South-western Subregion is being organized by ESCAP, in cooperation with the Economic Cooperation Organization in early 1999 in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran.
This study, to be distributed at the Seminar, analyses the trade and investment complementarities among the 10 members of ECO and neighbouring Armenia. It describes the physical facilities and structures now in place, and trade and investment policies at the national level. The constraints on further expansion of trade and investment will then be analysed. Priority areas for enhanced market and investment integration among the 11 countries and with the rest of Asia will be identified.
Finally, areas for technical assistance to promote integration will be discussed. The unifying theme of the last three sections will be to identify how trade and investment complementarities can be exploited through the development of soft infrastructure.
