The purpose of the monograph is to provide a comprehensive picture of past, current and prospective population trends in the countries, as well as a basis for measuring such human needs as health services, housing, education, employment and family planning in terms of the size, growth and basic composition of the population. Changes and trends in these characteristics over a period of time are measured in terms of geographic distribution of the population to enable planners to determine regional needs within the country.
